My partner and I had seen Mr. Bill before, November 2024, same venue. Monarch couldn't make it to that one. He had seen him somewhere else before, so this was all of our second time seeing Mr. Bill. Monarch's SO was there too, I think it was her first time seeing him.

Skope opened. A lot of beats that were basically the same - you hear one track, you've heard them all. The buildups didn't really go anywhere new. It was meh. Not a lot of dynamic range in sound or tones. Lots of bass, but you need more than that to keep people interested. He also played too long - over an hour. We didn't come to this show to see you, dude.

Mr. Bill was a different story.

The venue was packed. It was packed last time, but this was uncomfortably packed. I guess he got much more popular.

The energy is way different from Skope as a contrast. Stuff builds, then drops into completely new sounds - and it works. Lots of dynamic sounds, ranges, pitches, still tons of bass when appropriate. Amazing sample work, especially the vocal stabs that are heavily pitch shifted and bent, flipped, cut, stacked.

The set was similar to the previous one, even a lot of the same visuals, but still amazing. He has a really cool cat headbobbing to Nerves VIP. Lots of fun references in the visuals - Batman, Squidward, Kraftwerk album covers, Thanos, and little alien dudes living their life and dancing. All of it syncs with the music so well.
